Nexus Hub
This project won the National Gold Prize 2025 at the AYDA Awards. A transit-oriented redevelopment project in Islamabad promoting community and sustainable mobility.

Designed by Zainab Waqas, The Nexus Hub transforms Islamabad’s car-centric streets into people-first spaces. By relocating Jinnah Avenue underground and elevating the metro, the project reclaims 300 feet of city space for a vibrant pedestrian corridor. Integrating transit systems, electric shuttles, and social areas, the hub promotes walking, cycling, and community interaction. Former parking lots have been converted into marketplaces and gathering spots, fostering inclusivity and urban vitality. More than just a transit hub, The Nexus Hub envisions a city where mobility and community thrive—revitalizing the streets of Islamabad. This project not only enhances transit efficiency but also encourages social and economic engagement. The pedestrian boulevard features shaded rest areas, green spaces, and kiosks for a pleasant experience. Additionally, the hub incorporates smart design elements like real-time transit panels, energy-efficient lighting, and sustainable materials. By improving transport access and reducing congestion, The Nexus Hub sets a model for urban development in Pakistan’s growing cities. It aims to shift perceptions of city mobility, demonstrating how thoughtful urban planning fosters a more connected, sustainable, and community-driven environment.
