Borderless Architecture: Bridging the Divide
A visionary cross-border hub at the Wagah-Attari border, using architecture to bridge divides, foster cultural exchange, and promote unity between India and Pakistan.

Amidst the enduring geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, this thesis examines how architecture can serve as a catalyst for a peaceful future. Focused on the Wagah Attari border, the project reimagines existing facilities to meet international standards, including the freight trade and immigration infrastructure, enhancing efficiency and cooperation. The centerpiece is the innovative Borderless Architecture hub, located in the no man's land, designed to allow citizens from both countries to interact freely with a one-day permit, bypassing visa requirements. This facility features three main districts: Social & Cultural, Economic & Innovative, and Entertainment. Each district offers a range of programs, from a cultural centre and heritage walk to an exhibition Centre, convention space, and recreational areas. By celebrating shared heritage and facilitating meaningful interactions, the project envisions a space that transcends political boundaries, positioning architecture as a powerful medium for reconciliation and unity. This design introduces a comprehensive exploration of how strategic architectural design can not only bridge divides but also pave the way for a harmonious future being a catalyst.
