Wellness Center
A wellness retreat in Murree’s Brewery Hills, blending ruins, nature, and sensory-driven spaces to offer spiritual, mental, and physical healing through thoughtful zoning and organic circulation.

Set in the historic ruins of Murree Brewery Hills, this project explores the intersection of mind, body, and soul through a wellness retreat designed for holistic healing. Inspired by ancient Greek Asclepions—centers for mental and physical rejuvenation—the project focuses on sensory experiences guided by human psychology. The site is heavily contoured and includes ruins, rainwater streams, and minimal vegetation. Instead of overpowering the existing landscape, the design responds to it by following natural contours, preserving the ruins, and integrating pathways that flow with the terrain. Material choices like local wood and stone help the built form blend humbly with its surroundings. The site’s layered history is embraced, not erased, allowing architecture to support both healing and heritage.

Circulation is designed as a narrative journey, guiding the user seamlessly through various programs. Entry begins at the front ruins, leading into a semi-covered corridor wrapped around a sunken courtyard. This courtyard divides male and female wellness spaces—swimming, spa, lockers—into private yet connected zones. Pathways then extend outward, leading users to secluded sitting areas nestled in nature, where visual, tactile, and auditory senses are engaged through landscaping and a flowing water stream. These intuitive paths link to stepped suites, administrative spaces, and a second courtyard, culminating in the yoga and gym halls, a mosque, and finally an art workshop and eatery. The circulation ensures visual continuity across zones, enabling ease of movement and moments of pause.

The architectural language remains modest, taking cues from the surrounding ruins and using natural materials that age gracefully with time. The form avoids disruption, instead embedding itself into the site. Layered courtyards act as breathing spaces, creating connections between built elements while maintaining openness and light. The water stream, running alongside paths, enables physical interaction with nature and enhances sensory immersion. Each zone—whether for spiritual practice, physical activity, or creative exploration—is carefully zoned but interconnected. The retreat is not just a space for rest but a spatial therapy tool, aligning architecture with human well-being. The project becomes a timeless sanctuary that honors history, embraces nature, and nurtures the human soul.
