AgroHub
AgroHub is a farmer-focused research and training center in Mianwali that promotes sustainable agriculture through awareness, innovation, and local engagement, rooted in site-responsive design.

The agricultural sector is the backbone of Pakistan's economy, yet certain regions, lacking essential research and training infrastructure, struggle to meet food requirements due to limited knowledge, reliance on traditional methods, and lack of modern technology to address challenges like erratic climates, loss of cultivable land, and water scarcity. Mianwali district, located in the rain-fed tract of Punjab, is heavily reliant on agriculture, but the absence of a dedicated research facility has widened the gap between local farmers and national-level research, intensifying climate impacts. Rida Iqbal's thesis proposes an agricultural awareness project in Mianwali through AgroHub; a farmer-centric research and training center focused on awareness, innovation, and collaboration. The hub aims to work closely with the local farming community to promote sustainable practices, improve land productivity, and serve as a model for similar rain-fed regions facing agricultural challenges.

AgroHub’s design merges architectural sensibility with the environmental context, incorporating local materials such as mud, stone, and brown brick to create a sense of place and cultural belonging. The master plan includes built spaces in one zone, surrounded by fields and recreational areas extending toward an existing lake. The Market Zone frames views of green fields and water bodies while integrating shops, nurseries, and walking paths. The Education Zone centers around a water body, highlighting water as a key resource, and the Research Zone provides controlled environments, open decks, and labs for water-based studies. Vehicular access is limited, with a shuttle system supporting connectivity for remote farmers. Sustainability features include solar energy, anaerobic digestion for biogas and fertilizer, and water filtration systems. AgroHub becomes a model for integrated, farmer-focused development in Pakistan’s rain-fed regions.
