Raah-E-Zeest
A people-first revitalization of Purana Qila Road, transforming a traffic-heavy street into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly public space that reconnects community, culture, and care.

A street is more than just a stretch of road; it’s a place where life happens. Every footstep, every conversation, every shared moment adds to its story. The Purana Qila Water Filtration Plant Revitalization Project isn’t just about improving infrastructure; it’s about bringing life back to an overlooked space, turning a rushed pathway into a place where people can pause, connect, and feel at home. At the heart of this transformation is water, the one element that brings people together. What was once just a passage filled with cars and rickshaws has been reimagined as a welcoming space where people can slow down, find shade, sit together, and truly experience the city around them. The streets of Purana Qila have always been full of energy, with families shopping for weddings, children playing, and vendors calling out to customers. The challenge was to make space for all of this without losing the essence of the street. The answer? Prioritizing people over vehicles.

Now, the space is pedestrian-friendly, with service lanes for essential access. Bridal shops, which have long drawn families to the area, have dedicated seating spaces so visitors can take a break, chat, and enjoy the moment. A playground invites children to run, laugh, and be part of the city’s rhythm. Retractable shades provide relief from the heat, making the space inviting at all times of the day. And because learning builds stronger communities, a dedicated space encourages curiosity, conversation, and shared knowledge. This project is about more than just design; it’s about care. It’s about creating a space that understands its people and gives back to them. Green pockets soften the dense urban environment, making room for nature to exist alongside the city. Pedestrian-friendly pathways make the area safer, healthier, and more connected. Water conservation efforts ensure that this transformation respects the resource that defines it. Raah-E-Zeest is not just a redesign; it’s a revival of what streets are meant to be—places for people. It preserves the history of Purana Qila while embracing the way the community lives and moves today.
